The OHA Hawaiian Registry Ancestry Verification Program provides Hawaiians, worldwide, an OHA Hawaiian Registry ancestry verification color photo card, after verifying your indigenous Hawaiian ancestry through your biological parentage. 

The OHA Hawaiian Registry ancestry verification card enables you to apply to programs of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and it may be used when registering for Kau Inoa .

What is OHA Hawaiian registry?

The OHA Hawaiian Registry Program (HRP) provides Hawaiians, worldwide, with a Hawaiian ancestry verification card issued by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, after verifying your indigenous Hawaiian ancestry through your biological parentage.

Why was the program started?

The OHA Hawaiian Registry Program (HRP) was initiated in May 2002 by an action from the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) to replace the existing Operation ‘Ohana Program.

What is the purpose?

The purpose is to create an updated information base of Hawaiians showing lineal descent from the aboriginal people that inhabited the Hawaiian Islands before 1778.

Why should I register?

The card confirms your Hawaiian ancestry supported by your certified documents
The ancestry verification card enables you to apply for OHA programs (i.e. grants, scholarships, business loans, etc)
Registering is an easy, one-time process—use this card instead of hauling around documents!
You may use this card to register for Kau Inoa
Your Hawaiian documents are stored safely for your future reference/card renewal
It’s FREE!  No blood quantum is required.

2. Birth Certificate: A photo-copy of your birth certificate stating Hawaiian Ancestry

  • IF YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE DOES NOT STATE HAWAIIAN:
  • Provide document(s) that link your Hawaiian Ancestry through your *biological parentage.

3. Photo ID:

  • Identifying the applicant, or parent/guardian signatures

4. A color photograph for your new OHA Hawaiian Registry Ancestry Verification card.
